The pinnacle of my blogging career was reached the other day when I was asked to review shoes!
It doesn’t get any better than that does it?
Well actually yes, because I was given this opportunity by one of my favourite shoe retailers – Barratts.
I genuinely love Barratts because I have always found their shoes to be high quality, reasonably priced, and bang on trend. I have had a couple of pairs of winter boots from there which have stood the test of time.
Whilst browsing the site (which is so user friendly divided into all sorts of categories) I narrowed it down to these beauts:
However, I put my thinking cap on and realised that I have sooo many heels already and what I could really use was some new work shoes. Working in a laboratory, I’m pretty much restricted to flats with no open toes allowed at all. Boo.
At the risk of sounding 30 years older than I actually am - very cheap shoes are a false economy because they don’t last, can cause foot problems, and you end up spending more money on pedicures as they just completely wreck your feet.
My last two pairs of supermarket ballerinas were so cheap that they only lasted a couple of weeks before falling to bits or getting wet once and going mouldy (gross). And the smell – I refuse to go into that as you may be eating right now.
Barratts have a category labeled “Comfortable Shoes” and before you could say “Old Fart” - I was in there. The site has a great range of comfortable footwear that is not at all fuddy-duddy.
It must have been the ‘back to school’ vibe but in the end I chose these retro (for me anyway) Kickers Verda Fold Casual Shoes with bow detail (£40). We all had these at school and Kickers are synonymous with good quality and the iconic red and green tags took me way back.
I’m really happy with my selection. The Micro-Fresh technology keeps them pong-free (a big problem with supermarket shoes) and the Verda rubber sole and cushion foam footbed is really comfy for all the walking I do around the lab. They look smart casual with trousers or a skirt too and I almost feel like a school kid again!
